What is Herbal Medicine?

Herbal medicine refers to plant parts used for medicinal properties. The fruit, bark, seeds, leaves or flowers of certain plants contain complex chemical structures which have proven therapeutic effects.

Herbal medicine is continuously being validated by growing scientific evidence. Dating back thousands of years, it has been traditionally used in many cultures throughout history.

Alana uses the most up to date scientific evidence along with traditional knowledge when mixing and prescribing herbal medicines. Alana has extensive training in the proper use of herbal medicines and through an understanding of the phytochemical structures of these herbs, Alana creates individualised herbal remedies for her clients.

What is Nutritional Medicine?

Nutritional medicine refers to the supplementation of specific nutrients (singular or in combination) to address certain nutrient deficiencies.

“Alana creates individualised herbal remedies for her clients.”

Nutrient deficiencies can occur due to:

Poor dietary intake

Digestive disfunction

Stress

Disrupted nutrient absorption
(IBS, IBD, microbial overgrowth, allergies)

Food processing, additives or chemicals

Medications

Smoking

 Genetics plus more…

Everyone requires and utilises nutrients differently; therefore supplementation requirements will be different for everyone.

Not all supplements are made the same; often cheap or store brought supplements are made for cost effective purposes and do not prioritise bioavailability. Alana utilises nutritional supplements which have been formulated to optimise bioavailability, shown to have positive clinical outcomes and are free from harmful ingredients.

At times, nutritional supplementation may be required to support symptoms reduction, correct deficiencies and support health whilst on the way to making dietary changes.

What is Clinical Nutrition?

Continual new evidence identifies that nutrition plays a vast role to our health. It’s important to note that supplementation does not provide the same outcomes as a balanced diet. Food provides nutrient and non-nutrient constituents, which have been shown to support immune, gut, reproductive and mental health.

Whilst supplementation can be used; balanced and healthy food choices are also a priority to supporting long term health.

Like nutrient supplementation, each of us require unique foods to support our individual health. Alana makes dietary recommendations based on each individual client.

It can be difficult to navigate dietary choices when there is so much influence from external sources including social media.

Alana holds full qualifications in clinical nutrition and understands the effects of foods within the body.
